Dad's Day Done the Cape Cod Way
Option A for Father's Day: Another new tie.
Option B: Spending Father's Day weekend on Cape Cod.
Total no-brainer, isn't it? Allow us to make your gift-giving decision even easier by offering suggestions on things to do.
Golf at Highland Links + Lunch in Provincetown
Not only is Highland Links the oldest golf course on Cape Cod, with views of Highland Light from every hole, it's one of the prettiest. This is a true Scottish links-style course once described by Alistair Cook as "the most perfect example of the typical British or Scottish links in the United States." If Dad is a fan of lighthouses, by all means, take the time to tour Highland Light. If he's a fan of great burgers and ice-cold craft brews, head to Provincetown for lunch at the 1620 Brew Pub. For waterfront dining, Fanizzi's is a great choice.
Lunch at a Classic Clam Shack
Have a father who isn't big on starched white linens and having to keep his elbows off the table? One of Cape Cod’s best clam shacks should prove the perfect place for lunch. Right on Wellfleet Harbor is Mac's on the Pier, a seaside outpost of a small chain of Cape seafood restaurants. The massive menu features the usuals – Cape Cod clam chowder, lobster rolls, fried clams – and unexpected options such as poke bowls and a to-die-for grilled swordfish sandwich with herbed mayo. Just up the street is the slightly more formal, as in you actually have to wear shoes, Mac's Shack: larger restaurant, bigger menu including a classic clambake. Closer to Endless Coast is Moby Dick's Restaurant which serves one of Cape Cod’s best lobster rolls and great fried seafood in a dining room that is essentially a big screened-in porch. For another "screened-in-porch dining experience" head to the Lobster & Chowder House, the Wellfleet location of the famed Lobster Pot in Provincetown.
Charter Fishing
Both Wellfleet and Provincetown have Cape Cod charter fishing fleets that offer half-day and full-day expeditions. What better way to make dad's day than spending time at sea trying to reel in the big one? Depending on the time of year, expect (or should we say "hope"?) to catch bluefish, tuna and striped bass. All boats are helmed by licensed captains; most have a crew that will clean and package your fish for you.
